The Refrigerator

I've seen a few blogs out there about the contents of one's refrigerator, most of them amusing, so I thought I would step up to the challenge and open the Internet to the world that is the Murdock fridge.

Today, July 26th 2008, my refrigerator looks like this:

I think it would be simplest to start from the top and work our way down. On the top shelf we have beef stock from I honestly am not sure when. The last time I remember using beef stock was when the Prue's came to visit last fall, but I am confident I threw the remains of that one out, so maybe this is what is left over from my last beef bourguignon or something.

To the right of the beef stock you will see a chilled Gatorade Frost. The best flavors of Gatorade are the Frost flavors. This is waiting for me to drink on that day when I had a long hot run and really need it. Could have used it today but I forgot it was in there. Maybe I'll move it to the front.

Next we have unsalted butter (a baking must!), the remains of the gallon of milk from when I was out of town, the new half gallon I bought for Glenn to use this week, golden potatoes that I will use tonight when roasting vegetables and garlic, asparagus, fresh mozzarella that we ate last night with our steak salads, cottage cheese, and blue cheese crumbles that will go on top of the garlic heads I am roasting this evening.

On to the 2nd row. In the back is creme fraiche which has a really long shelf life, I was surprised. Below the creme fraiche is feta that should have been thrown out in January. I'll get right on that. Then there is Bavarian Beer Cheese, raspberry jam, turkey dogs (way less calories and I swear they taste the same), and one alternative bagel. It's like the Nada Surf of bagels. Get it... Nada Surf, alternative... never mind.

I'm not really sure what's in the Ziploc next to the eggs, but I do know that the eggs came from Costco which is the best place to buy eggs because they are SO cheap and still quite delicious.

The bottom shelf I blame on Glenn. This is where he likes to keep beverages, but our fridge really isn't big enough for a cooling zone, so it just turns into a mess. As opposed to the rest of the fridge which is clearly oh so organized. A couple of Corona's, cranberry juice, some sort of salsa, baking soda, and the wine that is chilling for this evening. In the clear drawer is Vons peppered turkey freshly sliced for me yesterday (yum) and then in the drawers beneath there are some other vegetables and lettuces which will be used within the next two days as well.

There you have it! Do you feel like you have had a more intimate look into my life? I was tempted to organize everything (which I do every time I do a major grocery shopping trip) and then take pictures, but this feels more raw. If you decide to blog about your fridge, make sure you send me a link or post one in the comments!

Oh, and just for kicks - here is the side door. Have fun with that one.

** Added later:** I just remembered what the Ziploc next to the eggs contains: beef jerky that the aforementioned Prue's sent me from Middleville, Michigan. There is a place called Juke's that does home made jerky and it's so flipping good.

JV's - Where Everybody Knows Your Name

Or my Dad's name, at least. Remember this post where I mentioned JV's and also mentioned that it's basically unheard of (in my family at least) to go to or from the airport without stopping at this lovely establishment? One thing I failed to mention in that post was how everyone at JV's knows my Dad. He went there A LOT. I say went, not goes, because my parents (and 2 sisters) moved from the lovely San Diego to Laurel, Maryland a year ago. A YEAR AGO. And the JV's guys still know his name.

When my sister Kimberly was in town recently we decided to stop by JV's to get food, and of course to be able to gloat to my Dad that we were eating awesomely genuine Mexican food and he was stuck on the East Coast.

I ordered a favorite of mine - the taco salad with carne asada. Please note there are actually more chips than lettuce in this salad. Kimberly had rolled tacos, and Glenn ordered (what else) a California burrito. I also forgot to mention that one of the items in the salsa bar is unlimited hot carrots. Only a few Mexican shops offer unlimited hot carrots nowadays. Another reason to eat at JV's.

Tell me you're not jealous of that burrito. Freshly grilled carne asada, home made guacamole and tortillas, hot out of the grease french fries. Welcome to San Diego.
